How it works
What the lookup can and cannot tell you
We would rather be straight with you about this than have an oil go into the wrong engine.
Where the data comes from
The vehicle record is retrieved from the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service, the official government source. It returns make, fuel type, engine capacity, year and emissions standard.
What it does not include
DVLA does not publish model, variant or oil specification. Nobody can derive a manufacturer oil approval from a registration number alone, so our result is a shortlist rather than an approval.

What happens to the registration number
The registration number is sent to the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service to retrieve the vehicle record and is not stored by us. No keeper name, address or other personal information is returned by that service, and none is requested. The lookup is provided as a convenience for trade customers and carries no warranty as to the suitability of any product for a particular vehicle.
